[Men's & Women's Cross Country] Melaina Bent Runs Her way into the Top 10 at CUAA with Alex ...

Comments

(Lansing, MI) - Well cross fans, after a three week break your fleet footed Cardinals were back in action as they continued their 2013 campaign. Both the men's and women's country teams recently returned home after traveling to Lansing, MI for the Lansing Invitational held at Grand Woods Park.  Both teams had a couple of sensational runs returning home with one Top 10 All-Time record and one run that missed that mark of another Top 10 record by just one second.

In a post meet conversation Head Coach Jamie LaBrosse highlighted a few members of each teams.  On the ladies side, freshman Melaina Bent (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park HS) led the Lady Cards by running the 6th fastest time in school history.  She ran 20:33.8 and has now etched her name in the Concordia Record Books. Also mentioned was sophomore Alexis Tino (Sandusky, MI/Sandusky HS).  Fighting through injuries, and not being able to train full time, she ran a personal best of 23:8.9, shaving a whole minute from her previous best time. LaBrosse commented on her performance saying, "She ran real well, I noticed in the race that she was staying focused and poised in the back end of the race".  Coach LaBrosse also mentioned that freshman Molly Jarvis (Livonia, MI/Winston Churchill HS) had to stop halfway through the race with a freak injury.  She stepped on broken glass, which pierced her spikes and her foot, which required stitches and ended her run."

On the men's team LaBrosse stated that junior "Alex Kitchin (Flushing, MI/Flushing HS) ran awesome and was one second from breaking into the All-Time Top Ten list." He ran a time of 27:32.6 and needed a 27:31.2 for the 10th fastest time in school history.  LaBrosse remarked that "Kitchin got off to shaky start and was corralled by the pack but managed to work his way to the outside and move his way forward.  Every time he runs he is improving and I have high hopes for his continued success."  Sophomore Andrew Gardner (Scotts, MI/Vicksburg HS) also ran a personal best time of 29:12.2 during the race.

The Cardinals next meet will be on October 19th as they travel to Winneconne, Wisconsin for the UW-Osh Kosh Brooks Invite.  The race will be held at Lake Breese Golf Course.
