[Women's Cross Country] Johnston and Schofield Finish in Top-20 at WHAC Championships with 2nd ...Published by
(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Women's Cross Country team competed at the WHAC Championships in Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday. The Lady Cards ran tough and finished 5th out of ten teams in cold and wet conditions. Leading the charge for Concordia was freshman Stephanie Johnston (FR/Brantford, ON ) who placed 17th out of 100 runners in a time of 19:34 and just missed qualifying as an individual for the National Championships. Stephanie's time places her 2nd All-Time on the Concordia Top Ten performances in school history. Followed closely behind Stephanie was sophomore Brie Schofield (SO/Belleville, MI) who placed 18th in 19:36, placing her 3rd on Concordia's All-Time Top Ten. Rounding out the scoring for the Cards was Courtney Dykema (FR/Birch Run, MI) in 50th in a time of 21:01, Melaina Bent (SO/Comstock Park, MI) in 54th, Delisia Morris (SR/Ypsilanti, MI) in 51st, Elizabeth Mathews (FR/Canton, MI) in 66th, Amber Gillespie (FR) in 71st, Sidney Bosley (SO/Canton, GA) in 74th and Kelsey Riley (SO/Milford, MI) in 79th place. In the past two years, the Lady Cards have went from being a last place team year in and year out to competing with the top of the Conference. All of this while being the youngest team to toe the line. The future looks bright for the Cards! Delisia Morris was also named to the Champions of Character Team for the Cards.
