(Ann Arbor, MI) - The 4^th annual Summer Fun Run Series hosted at Concordia by the men's and women's cross country teams opened the season Thursday, July 7, on the Cardinals' 5k course on campus. The course is scenic but also challenging, the kind of course that most distance runners really enjoy. The weather was hot but tolerable. "The turn-out was light, but we had some runners here all the way from Virginia and Maryland today, so that was pretty cool," said head cross country coach Steve Montgomery. "We are hoping for a bigger turn-out next Thursday," he replied.  Coach Montgomery also commented that the Cardinals use these Fun Runs for a fundraiser for their cross country teams, and they only charge a nominal fee of $5.00 per runner, so it's a win-win for everyone.

The winner of the men's race was Chris Dunn, from Saline, Michigan, in a time of 18:02.3. First place in the women's race went to Kaly Bonaro, from Waldorf, Maryland, in a time of 22:29.5.

The Cardinals second Fun Run is scheduled for this Thursday, July 14^th at 7:00 pm, with registration beginning at 6:00pm. With the high school cross country season fast approaching, the Fun Runs are a great opportunity for high school runners to get some tune up races in before the season starts.
