Fresh off a title at the Big Ten Preview, the 19th-ranked Maize and Blue will travel to South Bend, Ind., this Friday (Oct. 3) to compete in the Blue and Gold Invitational at the Notre Dame Golf Course.

After capturing the individual title and helping U-M to a team victory at the Big Ten Preview last weekend, Mason Ferlic was recognized as the Big Ten Athlete of the Week.

Individual winner Mason Ferlic (24:32) and runner-up Tony Smoragiewicz (24:39) helped propel the No. 22-ranked Wolverines to a first-place finish at the 8K Big Ten Preview in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mason Ferlic, James Yau and Ben Flanagan were voted team captains for the 2014 season, which continues Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Big Ten Preview in Iowa.

For the past four years, fifth-year senior James Yau has been the only person at Michigan to be both a varsity student-athlete and an ROTC cadet.

No. 22 Michigan will get a preview of the conference championships course this weekend when the squad heads to Iowa for the Big Ten Preview. Race time is 8:45 a.m. CDT on Saturday (Sept. 20).

The Wolverines' 2014 season commenced Friday morning with the 5,000-meter Michigan Open, where U-M posted a seven-second split between finishers one through five.

The 22nd-ranked Wolverines will kick off first season under head coach Kevin Sullivan by hosting the annual Michigan Open on Friday (Aug. 29, 10:30 a.m.) at Hudson Mills Metropark in a non-scoring 5K event.
