[Men's Cross Country] Foreman first of four, Ripley wins his third

Comments

Holland, Mich. (8/31) Easing their way into the 2013 season, Cornerstone sent just four men to the starting line at the Vanderbilt Invitational hosted by Hope College.  A former Golden Eagle raced well, winning the meet for the third time since 2009.

Three-time cross country All-American while at CU, Zach Ripley led from the gun, with junior, Ben Foreman in the lead pack through two miles.  Midway through the race, spectators blocked the way causing the first dozen runners to turn off course temporarily.  When things got sorted out, Ripley was still in control and Foreman still in the top fifteen. The detour ended any chance of Ripley lowering his course record of 24:59 set in 2010.

Zach won easily in 25:35, putting over a minute on runner-up Mitchell Klingler of Albion.  Foreman finished 13th in 27:37.  Freshman, Jacob Benson 37th came in at 29:01. Ethan Trombley was ten places back in his collegiate debut running 30:40. Senior Tyler Grey was 53rd in 31:45. Hope took the team title with 30 points ahead of Albion's 40.

The Golden Eagles will be at full strength in two weeks at the Knight Invite hosted by Calvin College on September 14.
