[Men's Cross Country] Freshmen and Fifth-Year Seniors Race Well at CalvinPublished by

Out with the old and in with the new didn't exactly describe the situation as Cornerstone's Cross Country freshmen and fifth-year seniors demonstrated both ends of the collegiate career spectrum a the Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College. Once again, the hard ground and cool temperature made the Gainey Athletic Complex ideal for fast times. Jared Courtright and Cody Risch completed their CU Cross Country careers in 2012, but have Track & Field eligibility remaining and entered the meet as unattached athletes. Courtright finished thirteenth in a personal best 25:28 and Risch ran a respectable 25:50 in 29th place. Three Golden Eagle freshmen raced well. Jacob Benson improved by nearly one minute from his first 8k, running 28:05 for 189th. Isaac Burnham debuted at 28:31 for 219th and Ethan Trombley chopped over two minutes off his first attempt clocking 28:37 in 227th. Ben Foreman paced CU for the second meet in a row running 27:04 placing 113th. The 2012 NAIA National Champions, St. Francis of Illinois won the meet with 42 points over Aquinas with 74 and Calvin's 142. Cornerstone was 21st in the 27 team field with 569.
