[Men's Cross Country] Falland flies at Rim Rock Farm

Comments

(Lawrence, Kan.) Cornerstone senior, Louis Falland got a good look at the course that will be the sight of the 2013 NAIA Cross Country National Championship. The 272 men in the 30 team field also got a good look at Louis as he charged his way to third place in the eight kilometer race.

Sunny skies, a slight breeze and pleasant temperatures made for good conditions over the challenging course that included two covered bridge crossings, several steep climbs and a cemetery. In addition, sculpture silhouettes of seven great runners from Kanas University history are scattered around the 125 acre venue.

From the start, Falland was never out of the top ten, running with the lead pack until it fell apart on the final climb up Copperhead Trail. Fourth with 400 meters to go, Falland's kick put him third at the finish in a new personal best of 25:06.

The other Golden Eagles also ran well with Ben Foreman taking 96th in 27:12. Senior, Tyler Grey led a pair of freshmen to a tight 3-5 CU finish. Grey was 171st in 28:32 with Jacob Benson 176th at 28:37 and Hunter Burnham 178th in 28:39. Ethan Trombley took 199th in 29:13 and Michael Darling ran a PR 29:24 in 207th.

Second ranked Aquinas won the meet with 85 points and eighth ranked Lewis-Clark State from Idaho upset fourth ranked Shawnee State of Ohio for second with 100 points. Cornerstone took 20th with 542 points.
