[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Men's Track & Field take on field at Trine

Comments

ANGOLA, IN -- The Spring Arbor Men's Track Team traveled to Trine University Friday for their second meet of the indoor season.

Freshmen Austin Hundley debuted in the Spring Arbor yellow and blue, throwing a quarter inch under 43 feet in the shot put. His toss was good enough to land him a 3rd place spot on the all-time Spring Arbor University shot put record list.

Hundley had this to say about his performance, "Honestly, I didn't have big goals today but I wanted to do well and make something of myself. I hit things I didn't expect to hit and had a blast today."

The Cougars were also able to put together an impressive distance medley, posting a time of 10:30. Jared Lauber led off the relay with a 3:10 in the 1200 meter. He handed off to Max Watters, who split a 51.8 in the 400 meter. Nathan Anderson ran the 800 meter leg for Spring Arbor, running a 1:59 and breaking 2:00 for the first time in his life. Simon Reidsma anchored for the team splitting a 4:27 in the mile.

Their time of 10:30 was four seconds off indoor qualifying time, and the crew will look to cut down that time later this season.

Other notable efforts include Tyler Neu and Sam Comden's efforts in the open mile. They ran times of 4:46 and 4:52 respectively, solid marks for their first collegiate mile.

Senior Chris Conrad continued his consistent success this season with a time of 1:59 in the open 800. His time was good enough for a first place finish in the race.

"For our second meet, it's an incredible start," said Head Coach Dante Ottolini. "Team spirit was high."

Helping team spirit was a bolstered fan presence at the meet. Ty Davis, Spring Arbor University's Director of Sports Marketing, coordinated a fan bus that transported students from Spring Arbor to Trine to watch the team.

The Spring Arbor squad will undergo another week of training before they are back in action at Hillsdale College for a two day meet on February 7-8.
