GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The third oldest record in Spring Arbor University track and field history fell last night as SAU Senior, Dewayne Gray set the new standard in the 400 meter with a blistering time of 50.33 breaking the time set by Duane Ingraham's time of 50.81 back in 1981.  The two older records were set in 1979 by the same person, Greg Derschied in the Triple Jump (46'6"), and the Shot Put (45'9.5")

The meet, the Mike Lintz Memorial, was held at Grand Valley State University and it was the first time out for the Cougars, who train on a much shorter track (180m) compared to the GVSU (300m) so the Cougars were looking at this first meet to kick off the winter rust.

"This was a solid season opener for us," said Head Coach, Dante Ottolini.  "It was like a practice in uniform.  It is very early in our training cycle, and we only had one full week to work on running events and to work on specific events that we are targeting.  I was very pleased with the outcome."

Chris Conrad posted the sixth fastest 600 meter in SAU history with a time of 1:23.38 and Uriah Rogers clocked a 23.17 in the 200, with is also the sixth fastest for the Spring Arbor record books.

On setting the record, the ever humble Gray simply said that;  "it doesn't come easy", which breaking records never do.

With a limited team in the field, Spring Arbor University finished 21^st of 23 teams at the GVSU event, and will be back in action with a larger squad on January 31 at Trine University.
