[Men's Outdoor Track & Field] Falland breaks school record in 5000 Meter Run

(Hillsdale, Mich.) In his first outdoor 5,000 meter race in two years, Louis Falland took five seconds off the school record and lowered his personal best by 1:46 at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays.

Running in perfect conditions late Friday evening in the Championship heat, the CU senior passed through the opening mile with the leaders in 4:35. After an evenly paced second mile in 4:36, Falland moved ahead with 1,000 meters remaining. He clocked 66 seconds for the twelfth lap then kicked the final 200 meters in 31 seconds. A 29 second finish by unattached athlete, Michael Jordan caught Louis 40 meters from the finish to win in 14:18.70. Louis' time of 14:19.36 broke the school record, 14:24.56 set in 2006 by Derek Scott. The time is also the fourth fastest on the NAIA nationals list.

Sophomore, Deon Fox spent two days working through the decathlon setting new bests in four of the ten events. His 11.55 in the 100 meters, 53.19 for 400 meters, 15.26 in the 110 meter hurdles and 103' 7" effort in the discus combined with his marks in the long jump, shot put, high jump, pole vault and 1500 meter to total 5947 points for fifth place in the field of eight

Running in the open section of the 5,000 meters, senior Jared Courtright improved to 15:15.94. He finished 27th out of 143.  Jared Holmberg ran a new best of 1:58.59 in the 800 meters putting him 26th out of 74 entrants.

Jon Brinks' PR 11.05 in the 100 meters was good for third in his heat and tenth out of 42.
