[Men's Indoor Track & Field] CARDS 4x200 RELAY TEAM SHATTERS SCHOOL RECORD

Comments

(Angola, IN) - The Men's Indoor Track and Field Team traveled to Trine University on Friday for the Trine Invitational. The Cards had a good day and turned in some exceptional performances. At the top of the list was the 4x200 meter relay team which took 3rd place and broke the school record in the process. Leading off the relay was sophomore, Caleb Mims who handed off to freshmen, Jeff Xaver, followed by junior, Ryan Walton, who then handed off to senior, anchor, Martell Buchanan, clocking a time of 1:32.65 and breaking the school record by more than 3 seconds. "The guys ran an excellent and exciting race," said Coach Steve Montgomery. "I knew that school record was breakable and I knew these four guys could do it. We had good exchanges and the guys really pushed themselves to make it happen. I was super excited watching the race unfold as was our whole team," he added.

In other sprint events Mims placed 6th place in the 60 meter dash as well as the 200 meter dash running times of 7.19 and 23.38. "Caleb had a really good day today," said Coach Montgomery. "He had three very solid races for us," he added.

Also competing in the 200 meter were Buchanan, Walton, and Xaver, with Buchanan leading the way taking 4th place, running a time of 23.06. Montgomery stated that "there were several teams from our Conference here today and Martell was right there with their sprinters. I think this is a good sign for our upcoming Conference meet." Xaver also competed in the 60 meter hurdles for the Cards, placing 8th, and running his second best time of the season, 9.17.

The Cards top two throwers were freshmen, Stone Hadley and sophomore, captain, Eric Frisco. Hadley took 7th place with a throw of 42' or 9.75 meters, which is a PR (personal record) for him, while Frisco threw 40'5" or 12.32 meters. "The throwers are having steady improvement each week, which is excellent," Montgomery said.

The Cards top performer in the mile and half mile was senior, captain, Gary (Will) Cantrell. Freshmen Robert Duff, who is just coming off an injury, was the Cards lone competitor in the Long Jump.

The Cardinals next meet is their last and biggest meet of the season, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Meet. The meet is schedule to take place in two weeks on February 18th, back at Trine University. Good Luck Cards
