[Men's Outdoor Track & Field] Men's Track & Field overcome heat and wind at Don Klienow

Comments

ADRIAN, MI -- The Spring Arbor University Track team competed in the Don Klienow Invitational, tying for 13th out of 18 teams.

The meet was hosted by Sienna Heights University on Saturday, April 12.  SAU Head Track & Field Coach Dante Ottolini was especially impressed with Mitch Hession and Kelly Maxwell in the 110m Hurdles.

"They made it into finals despite a pretty strong headwind, which was good to see," said Ottolini.  "Maxwell ran 16.01, finishing fourth and Hession ran 16.9 and finished seventh.

"After the prelims I learned to be more compact with the wind," said Maxwell.  "Also the winner of the race, Jake Smith from IWU, was an NAIA national champion and I feel like I stacked up pretty well with him."

Chris Conrad had a breakout day in the 800m Run, finishing second in heat 2 with a time of 1:56. Bobby McCoy also ran a solid race, finishing first in heat 4 with a time of 2:03.

The heat and wind factored into some of the events, such as the 1500," said Ottolini.  "Simon Reidsma still ran a personal record with a time of 4:07.45, as did Nathan Anderson who finished in 4:10".

Anderson had a busy day running three events. In addition to the 1500, he ran a 2:02 in the 800m run and a 52 split in the 4x400.

"Efforts were good today," said Ottolini. "The conditions effected some of the times, but it was a good day."

The team will travel to Manchester University Thur. 17 to compete in the Spartan Classic.
