[Women's Indoor Track & Field] LaGrand Breaks Two School Records

Comments

(Angola, IN) - This past Friday, the Women's Indoor Track and Field team traveled to Trine University in Indiana for the Trine Invitational. The Lady Cards top performance for the day was turned in by freshmen, Michele LaGrand. LaGrand placed 5th in the 60 meter dash, breaking her own school record, running a time of 8.06. She then ran in the 200 meter dash, placing 3rd, breaking her other school record, running a time of 27:03. Head Coach Steve Montgomery said that "Michele had an outstanding day today. She has been working hard at practice, and it is paying off for her. I think she is poised to have an excellent performance at our Conference Meet in two weeks."

Also running in the 60 and the 200 meter was junior, Brenda Hawkins, while freshmen Joy Orr ran the 200 and the 400 meter. "Our sprinters have all been doing a good job at practice and are continuing to improve," Montgomery said.

Competing in the 800 meter and the mile were sophomore, Molly Rathje and senior, Maggie Harris. This was Rathje's first meet back from injury.

"Our team is small, but we have a lot of heart, and we're not afraid to work hard and have some fun," said Coach Montgomery.

The Cardinals next meet is their last and biggest meet of the season, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Meet. The meet is schedule to take place in two weeks on February 18th, back at Trine University. Good Luck Cards
